This is the first real decision anyone makes on Skadar Lake, and the two options are not variations of the same product. One is a cultural experience that happens to move; the other is a tool for covering a very large lake.

The honest version of this comparison is arithmetic. Group tours price per person; private boats price per boat. Everything else follows from where those two lines cross.

A kayak puts you at water level among the lilies. A boat takes you across a lake that is thirty kilometres long. Both are correct answers to different questions.

Both beat midday by a wide margin. The choice between them comes down to whether you came for wildlife or for light — and whether you plan to swim.
