Skadar Lake Boat Tours: The Complete Local Guide
Routes, prices, departure points and the honest differences between the boats tied up in Virpazar — written by people who run them.
This is the first real decision anyone makes on Skadar Lake, and the two options are not variations of the same product. One is a cultural experience that happens to move; the other is a tool for covering a very large lake.

Pros
Cons
Ideal for: Families with young children, birdwatchers, photographers, anyone with three or four hours who wants atmosphere over distance.
Pros
Cons
Ideal for: Groups of four or more with a full day, swimmers, anyone who wants the island monasteries or an empty southern bay.
If you have half a day and want to feel the lake, take the wooden boat. If you have a full day and want to see the lake, take the sport boat. Groups of four or more who can only choose one should take the sport boat — the per-head cost is comparable and the territory covered is not.
Booking both across two days is the option nobody advertises and the one locals would choose: a wooden boat at sunset and a fast boat for the full-lake day.
The wooden boat — it is shaded, stable, quiet and slow enough for children to enjoy without engine noise and spray.
Not comfortably within a standard tour. The crossing takes too long at seven knots; the monasteries need a sport boat and four hours minimum.
