Virpazar is a village of roughly three hundred people built around a stone bridge at the mouth of the Crmnica river. It is also the single most important place on Skadar Lake: the main boat departure point, the closest settlement to the motorway exit, and the only village on the lake with a railway station.
Most visitors give it three hours. It comfortably absorbs two days.
Things to do
- Take a morning boat into the lily channels and out to Grmožur fortress.
- Climb ten minutes to Besac fortress for the best free view of the delta.
- Eat smoked bleak and grilled carp on a riverside terrace.
- Drive fifteen minutes to Godinje for Crmnica Vranac straight from the cellar.
- Come back at 07:00 for the mist on the channel and no boats at all.
Getting to Skadar Lake
- You are already there — the jetty is two minutes from the bridge.
- Motorway exit is 2 km away; the Bar–Podgorica train stops in the village.
- Parking is the one real obstacle in July and August: arrive before 09:30 or arrange a private space.
Day trips
- Murici and the southern beaches — one hour on the P2 lakeside road.
- Rijeka Crnojevića and the Pavlova Strana viewpoint — 35 minutes.
- Cetinje, the old royal capital — 45 minutes.
- Stari Bar and the coast — 35 minutes through the Sozina tunnel.

Yes. Sunrise on the lake and dinner after the day trippers leave are the two best hours here, and both require a bed nearby.
How do I get to Virpazar without a car?
The Bar–Podgorica railway stops in the village four to six times a day, roughly €2–3, with the jetty a ten-minute walk from the station.
