Things to Do in Virpazar: More Than a Boat Jetty

Take a boat — but the right one

The lake is the reason the village exists, so start there. Morning or evening, wooden or fast, three hours or seven: the full breakdown is in our Skadar Lake boat tour guide. Whatever you choose, avoid the 12:00 crush.

Walk the village properly

It takes twenty minutes and most visitors never do it. The stone bridge over the Crmnica, the ruined Besac fortress on the hill above (ten-minute climb, best view of the delta, a couple of euros entry), the old market square, and the memorial to the 1941 uprising. Besac at sunset is free of charge and better than most paid viewpoints in Montenegro.

Drink the Crmnica valley

Godinje, Boljevići and Limljani are within fifteen minutes by car and produce Vranac and Krstač from vineyards worked by hand. Get on land under your own power

Marked trails climb from the village towards the Rumija ridge, and the old lakeside roads make excellent cycling once you have a motor to flatten the gradients. A Skadar Lake e-bike experience covers the vineyard loop and the ridge viewpoints in half a day, which on foot would take two.

The small things

• Friday morning market — honey, rakija, cheese, dried figs, no tourist tat.
• Besac fortress at golden hour.
• Swim at Murici if you have the car and the hour.
• The train station: the Bar line crossing the causeway is a genuinely beautiful piece of railway.
• Coffee on the bridge at 08:00, before anyone else is awake.
